Masterbatches for Laser Marking

High-Contrast Marking with LAS Masterbatch

Laser marking is a fast, contactless method for precise labeling of plastic parts. With GODIPLAST’s special masterbatches, high-contrast and permanent markings can be achieved even on challenging materials – without any surface pre-treatment.

Laser Marking as a Proven Labeling Method

In recent years, laser marking has become firmly established as a fast, precise, and clean method for marking plastic surfaces.

The marking is achieved by focusing a highly energetic, concentrated beam of light (Nd:YAG or CO₂ laser) on a specific point on the surface of the component. The polymer absorbs the laser energy, causing the irradiated area to melt and subsequently change color.

Three Types of Marking

In principle, laser marking can be divided into three types: carbonization, foaming, and ablation (see figure on the right). The choice of method depends not only on the plastic material used but also on the desired appearance of the marking.

LAS Masterbatch for High-Contrast Results

In addition to plastics like SAN, ABS, and PC, which are well-suited for laser marking, there are polymers that require special additives to achieve sharp and high-contrast markings. This is where the LAS masterbatch comes into play!

Advantages of LAS Masterbatch:

  • Durable and high-contrast markings

  • No surface pre-treatment required

  • Application of variable data

Applications / Special Features of LAS Masterbatch:

  • Marking of buttons, switches, and rotary knobs

  • Application of IDs (e.g., for cable applications or animal ear tags)

  • Labeling of food packaging

  • Marking of highly transparent plastics

  • Combination batch (laser additive + color)
